The Lords Prayer- Temptation and the Evil One

The Lords Prayer

Speaker: Pastor Ty Neal
Date: March 18, 2018

Everyone wants their life to "count." We want our lives to matter. Think about it; we make lots of sacrifices to make a living, pursue that significant other, potentially have some kids and make our mark in this life. There seems to be a lot of blood, sweat, and tears involved. But how do we measure our success? How can we know that we are living a life that will make a difference? What if all the "ladder climbing" we've done in life has been pointless because our ladder has been on the wrong wall? Good news for you, there is a way you can know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that your life can have significance! You can live a life worth living! How? Join us for our new series this January - Life Worth Living.

Title Temptation & The Evil One Matthew

Matthew 6:13- And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

James 1:12- Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him

James 1:13- Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God," for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.

James 1:14-15 - But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 15Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.

Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

1 Corinthians 10:13 - No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

1 Corinthians 10:14 -Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry

1 Corinthians 6:18 - Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.

Matthew 6:13 - And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

Matthew 4:1 - Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

Matthew 4:2 - And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.

Matthew 3:16-17 - And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; 17and behold, a voice from heaven said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

Matthew 4:3  - And the tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread."

Matthew 4:4 - But he answered, "It is written,

"'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"

Matthew 4:5-6  - Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple 6and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written,

"'He will command his angels concerning you,'
and
"'On their hands they will bear you up,lest you strike your foot against a stone.'"

Matthew 4:7 - Jesus said to him, "Again it is written, 'You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.'"

Matthew 4:8-9 - 8Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9And he said to him, "All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me."

Matthew 4:10-11- 0Then Jesus said to him, "Be gone, Satan! For it is written,

"'You shall worship the Lord your Godand him only shall you serve.'"
11Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.

Matthew 6:13- And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness

1 John 3:1 - See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him

1 John 4:7- 7Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God

Romans 8:31-35 - What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

Romans 8:37-39- No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

“So when the devil throws your sins in your face and declares that you deserve death and hell, tell him this: "I admit that I deserve death and hell, what of it? For I know One who suffered and made satisfaction on my behalf. His name is Jesus Christ, Son of God, and where He is there I shall be also!” Martin Luther

Matthew 6:13- And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
[For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.]"
