A perfect church is as elusive as finding a Yeti riding atop a Unicorn in flight toward Atlantis. Perhaps you've heard the saying when it comes to modern church, "No perfect people allowed," but that is not totally true. There is one perfect person who actually leads the church-His name is Jesus! And He gathers imperfect people together to be His people on His mission for His glory and their good! Yet, along the way, we have a hard time playing nice together, laying down our personal preferences, and giving up the sins that destroy us, our unity and our witness to the outside world. Welcome to The Imperfect Church! Join us as we follow the perfect one-Jesus-and discover how He loves the imperfect church as we walk through the book of First Corinthians.

1 Corinthians 1:1-2- 1 Paul, called by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, and our brother Sosthenes,2To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours:
Acts 18:9-10- 9 And the Lord said to Paul one night in a vision, "Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent, 10for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many in this city who are my people."
“Corinthians were rootless, cut off from their country background, drawn from races and districts all over the empire.”
Big Idea: Anchored in Christ
1 Corinthians 1:2- 2 To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours:
Quote: “Paul looks at this church first as it is in Christ before he looks at anything else that is true of the church. That disciplined statement of faith is rarely made in local churches. The warts are examined and lamented, but often there is no vision of what God has already done in Christ.” David Prior
Quote: For all those discouraged by your progress in Christ: "By perseverance, the snail reached the Ark." - Charles Spurgeon
Quote: "A friend of mine once told me, "I prayed every day that God would take away my thirst for drink, and every day when I woke up my first thought was Jack Daniel's whiskey. Then one day I realized my craving for drink was the very reason I pray every day. My weakness drives me to God."
1 Corinthians 1:3 – 3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 1:4 - 4I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus,
1 Corinthians 1:5-7 - 5that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge— 6even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you— 7so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ,
2 Peter 1:3 – 3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,
1 Corinthians 1:8-9 - 8 who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 8:1 – 1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 1:6 - 6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
