When Jesus died on the cross, religion died with him. As he rose from the dead, religion stayed in the grave. Jesus did not come to start a religion but to secure for us the grace necessary to be the end of religion. The church is not in the religion business; it is in the Gospel-proclaiming business. Religion gives us an unending list of rules that never quite seems possible to complete, but Jesus came to give us life and life to the fullest and freest. Perhaps our view of Christianity, Jesus, God, church and the Bible as a religion is not accurate. What does the Bible actually say about religion? It is dead! Join us as we journey through the book of Galatians.
The Big Idea: We need to be careful of being led astray by the wrong kinds of belief.
Ephesians 4:8-11 ESV
Therefore it says, "When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men." (In saying, "He ascended," what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth? He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers,
God has taken all the initiative to form a love relationship with us.
Our new relationship as God's sons produces maturity and it's unreasonable to revert to bondage by observing the law.
Ephesians 4:12 ESV

Ephesians 4:14-15 ESV
so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,
A radical change of heart towards the gospel over legalism separates the need for religious works.
Ephesians 4:17-20 ESV
Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. But that is not the way you learned Christ!—
Matthew 23:15 ESV
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell as yourselves.
Religion should not be able to woo us away from the truth of God’s salvation in Christ through grace.
