Life has a way of being less two dimensional and more multifaceted than we give it credit. There are depths of emotions, textures of relating, sorrows as deep as a canyon, along with joys that soar higher than a mountain top - and everything in between. How are we to navigate such a complex life, all the while loving and enjoying God? Insert the Psalms from the Bible. Within these ancient and poetic musings, we find a melody that resonates with modern rhymes and reasons of life. Join us as we walk through selected Psalm and hear the vintage songs with a modern message.
TITILE - Parenting: Owner or Steward?
Psalm 127:1-2 - 1 Unless the Lord builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the watchman stays awake in vain.
2 It is in vain that you rise up early
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives to his beloved sleep.
Quote - “[Psalm 127] calls for dependence on God in every aspect of life and challenges the pretension that our own endless striving, by itself, can achieve anything of lasting significance.” - Martin Tel
Matthew 18:5-6 - 5 “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, 6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.
Quote - “If rules and regulations had the power to change the heart and life of your child, rescuing your child from himself and giving him a heart of submission and faith, Jesus would have never needed to come”! Paul David Tripp
Psalm 127:3 - 3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
Ownership vs. Stewardship
Quote - “They prioritize church over athletics, because there is no guarantee that they will go pro, but there is a guarantee where they will spend their eternal state.” J.D. Greer
John 14:6 - 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Psalm 127:4 - 4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth.
Psalm 127:5 - 5 Blessed is the man
who fills his quiver with them!
He shall not be put to shame
when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
Quote - “When there was any suit at law, these sons of his would be there to plead for him; if there was any fighting to be done, they also would be to the front. It was a dangerous thing to attack a man who had a house full of strong, loyal, loving sons. They would be his defense, they would speak, and speak with very considerable emphasis, too, with his enemies in the gate”. Charles Spurgeon
2 Peter 3:9 9The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
