Since the fourth century, the Church has celebrated the season of Advent (which means "coming" or "arrival") starting on the fourth Sunday before Christmas day. The celebration of Advent helps us focus our attention on the once anticipated birth of Jesus Christ as well as His promised return. In a season typically marked with busyness and distraction, we can easily miss the point of this season of celebration. Join us as we look back as well as lean forward into the light of Jesus Christ. Light: Advent 2017. December 3rd - 24th.
Sermon Title: God’s Gift of Love
John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Romans 5:8 - 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
1 John 4:19 - 19 We love because he first loved us.
John 3:16-16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:17-18 - 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
QUOTE - You are going to die. Take a moment to let that sink in. You are going to die. One morning the sun will rise and you won’t see it. Birds will greet the dawn and you won’t hear them. Friends and family will gather to celebrate your life, and after you’re buried they’ll return to the church for ham and scalloped potatoes. Soon your job and favorite chair and spot on the team will be filled by someone else. The rest of the world may pause to remember— it will give you a moment of silence if you were rich or well known— but then it will carry on as it did before you arrived. Michael Wittmer
Romans 8:1 - 1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
John 3:19- 19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.
John 3:20 - 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed.
John 3:21- 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God."
Isaiah 60:1-3 - 1 Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. 2 For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you. 3 And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.
Matthew 4:16 - 16 the people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death,on them a light has dawned."
