Title  - Husbands & Wives

1 Corinthians 11:2- 2Now I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I delivered them to you.

1 Corinthians 15:3-4 - 3For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,

1 Corinthians 11:3 -  3But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God.

Freedom does not mean the absence of authority.

Freedom does not mean the absence of differences.

John 6:38 - 38For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.

Ephesians 5:22 - 22Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.

Hebrews 12:2 -  2looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Philippians 2:5-11 - 5Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Freedom does not mean the absence of authority.

Authority allows us to flourish together in our freedom.

Freedom does not mean the absence of differences.

Differences allow us to flourish together in our freedom.

1 Corinthians 11:4-6 - 4Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head, 5but every wife who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, since it is the same as if her head were shaven. 6For if a wife will not cover her head, then she should cut her hair short. But since it is disgraceful for a wife to cut off her hair or shave her head, let her cover her head.

QUOTE - “Gender distinctions are not a curse to be covered, but a blessing to be celebrated.” David Prior

1 Corinthians 11:7 - 7For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God, but woman is the glory of man.

1 Corinthians 11:8-10 - 8For man was not made from woman, but woman from man. 9Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. 10That is why a wife ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels.

1 Corinthians 11:11-12 - 11Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man nor man of woman; 12for as woman was made from man, so man is now born of woman. And all things are from God.

1 Corinthians 11:13-15 - 13Judge for yourselves: is it proper for a wife to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14Does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair it is a disgrace for him, 15but if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering.

1 Corinthians 11:16 - 16If anyone is inclined to be contentious, we have no such practice, nor do the churches of God.

Ephesians 5:22-24 - 22Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. 24Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.

Respect

Ephesians 5:25-30 - 25Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. 28In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30because we are members of his body.

Protect

Ephesians 5:31-33 -  31"Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." 32This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. 33However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
