Duplicate The Ten Virgins

Long Story Short — Parables of Jesus

Speaker: Ty Neal
Date: June 04, 2017

We all love good stories - especially when they are short and punchy. Jesus was the master storyteller. Many times throughout the Gospels, he told short stories, called parables, that left challenging and life-changing impacts on the listener's life. Join us as we walk through some of Jesus' parables. Long Story Short.

Title - The Parable of the Ten Virgins

Matthew 24:36 - 36 “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.

Acts 1:10-11 - 10 And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, 11 and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”

Matthew 25:1 - 1 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom.

Matthew 25:2 - 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise.

Matthew 25:3-4 - 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps.

QUOTE - “Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready.” Bud Neal

Matthew 25:5 - 5 As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept.

Matthew 25:6-7 - 6 But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ 7 Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps.

Matthew 25:8-9 - 8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’

Matthew 25:10 10 And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut.

Matthew 25:11-12 11 Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ 12 But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’

Matthew 25:12 - 12 But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’

QUOTE - The dreadful sentence, “Truly, I say to you, I never knew you,” is simply the truth of their condition. He does not say, “I never called you.” He does not say, “I never loved you.” He does not say, “I never drew you to myself.” He only says, “I never knew you - because you never bothered to know me.” Robert Farrar Capon

Matthew 25:13 13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

1 John 3:8-10 - 8 Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. 9 No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. 10 By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.
